Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Thus, the Prophet’s saying, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“The truest words ever spoken by a poet are the words of Labīd: ‘Indeed, everything apart from Allah is vain.’”

means that every object of worship besides Allah is false, as in His saying:

“That is because Allah is the Truth, and what they invoke besides Him is falsehood.”

Allah Most High also says:

“Say, ‘Who provides for you from heaven and earth? Who controls hearing and sight? Who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living? And who governs all affairs?’ They will say, ‘Allah.’ Say, ‘Will you not then fear Him?’”

“Such is Allah, your true Lord. What is there beyond truth except error? How, then, are you turned away?”

Earlier, He says:

“They will be returned to Allah, their true Master, and whatever they used to invent will fail them.”

Likewise, He says in Sūrat al-An‘ām:

“Until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take his soul, never neglecting their duty.”

“Then they are returned to Allah, their true Master.”

And He says:

“That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord.”

‘Uthmān, or someone else, visited Ibn Mas‘ūd while he was ill and asked, “How do you feel?” He replied, “I feel that I am being returned to Allah, my true Master.”

Allah Most High says:

“On the Day when their tongues, hands, and feet will testify against them concerning what they used to do.”

“On that Day Allah will pay them their just recompense in full, and they will know that Allah is the Manifest Truth.”

They had already acknowledged His existence in this world, but on that Day they will know that He alone, to the exclusion of all else, is the Manifest Truth. Hence His words, “He is the Truth,” employ a construction expressing exclusivity. For on that Day no one will still claim divinity, nor will anyone associate anyone with his Lord.
