al-Hadīd and al-Mujādalah occurs in His words, Most High:
“He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rose over the Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what comes out of it, what descends from heaven and what ascends into it. He is with you wherever you are, and Allah sees all that you do.”
And His words, Most High:
“There is no private conversation among three but He is their fourth, nor among five but He is their sixth, nor fewer than that nor more but He is with them wherever they may be. Then He will inform them of what they did on the Day of Resurrection.”
It is authentically reported that the righteous predecessors said: “He is with them through His knowledge.”
Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr and others stated that this was the consensus of the Companions and those who followed them in righteousness. No one whose opinion carries weight disagreed with them on this. It is transmitted from Ibn ʿAbbās, al-Dahhāk, Muqātil ibn Hayyān, Sufyān al-Thawrī, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and others.
Ibn Abī Hātim said in his Quran commentary: “My father narrated to us: Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Maʿmar narrated to us, from Nūh ibn Maymūn al-Madrūb, from Bukayr ibn Maʿrūf, from Muqātil ibn Hayyān, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His words, ‘He is with you wherever you are.’ He said: ‘He is upon the Throne, and His knowledge is with them.’”
He said: “It is also reported from Sufyān al-Thawrī that he said: ‘His knowledge is with them.’”
He also said: “My father narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dawraqī narrated to us: Nūh ibn Maymūn al-Madrūb narrated to us: Bukayr ibn Maʿrūf narrated to us, from Muqātil ibn Hayyān, from al-Dahhāk ibn Muzāhim, concerning His words, ‘There is no private conversation among three but He is their fourth,’ through to His words, ‘wherever they may be’:
