from Harb:
“It is not permissible to delve into matters concerning Allah Most High as one may delve into the actions of created beings, for Allah Most High says:
‘He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.’”
It was also narrated that Harb said:
“This is the position of the leading scholars, the adherents of hadith and transmitted reports, and the people of the Sunnah renowned for their adherence to it. It is the position of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Ishāq ibn Rāhawayh, al-Humaydī and others. They held that Allah descends every night to the lowest heaven however He wills and as He wills:
‘There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.’”
It was also narrated from Harb that Ishāq ibn Ibrāhīm said:
“No one may conceive of the Creator, His attributes and His actions in the same way that one may reflect upon and examine matters concerning created beings. For it is possible for Him to be described as descending to the lowest heaven every night, when two-thirds of it have passed, as He wills. One must not ask how He descends, for He is the Creator and acts however He wills.”
He also narrated from Muhammad ibn Salām, who said:
“Fadālah asked ‘Abd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak about the descent on the fifteenth night of Sha‘bān. ‘Abd Allāh replied, ‘O weak one, tajidu khaddāya khūshīrkun: He descends however He wills.’”
It was narrated that Ibn al-Mubārak said:
“If someone says to you, ‘You liken Allah to His creation,’ know that he is a Jahmī.”
‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Mandah said:
“Beware of being among those who say, ‘I believe in a Lord who does whatever He wills,’ yet then deny what is in the Book and the Sunnah concerning what Allah has willed and has enjoined upon His creation
