One is that the angels continually descend to the earth by night and by day, as Allah, exalted is He, says:

“He sends down the angels with revelation by His command upon whomever He wills of His servants.”

And He, exalted is He, says:

“We descend only by the command of your Lord.”

In the two Sahīh collections, Abū Hurayrah and Abū Sa‘īd, may Allah be pleased with them both, report that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Angels take turns among you by night and by day, meeting at the dawn and afternoon prayers. Then those who spent the night among you ascend to Him, and their Lord asks them—though He knows best about them—‘How did you leave My servants?’ They reply, ‘We came to them while they were praying, and we left them while they were praying.’”

It is likewise authentically reported in the Sahīh from Abū Hurayrah that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Allah has additional angels who roam about, seeking gatherings of remembrance. When they pass people remembering Allah, exalted is He, they call out, ‘Come to what you seek!’ Then they surround them with their wings up to the lowest heaven.” He said, “Their Lord asks them—though He knows best about them—‘What are My servants saying?’” He said, “They reply, ‘They glorify You, proclaim Your greatness, praise You and extol Your majesty.’”

In a version narrated by Muslim:

“Allah has angels who roam about, in addition to those who record people’s deeds, seeking gatherings of remembrance. When they find a gathering in which Allah is remembered, they sit with them and surround one another until they fill the space between them and the lowest heaven. When the people disperse, they ascend—or rise—to heaven.” He said, “Then Allah, mighty and majestic, asks them—though He knows best about them—‘Where have you come from?’ They reply, ‘We have come
