And of the same kind are the poet’s words:
“Present in my heart, I behold him;
I never forget him, that I should need to recall him.”
And another’s words:
“Your image is before my eyes, your remembrance on my lips;
Your dwelling is my heart—how, then, could you be absent?”
This is the “highest similitude” of which Allah says:
“To Him belongs the highest similitude.”
Likewise, He says:
“It is He who is God in heaven and God on earth.”
“He is Allah in the heavens and on earth.”
This is also the “likeness” referred to in His words:
“There is nothing like Him.”
For nothing whatsoever resembles Him, glorified is He. Nothing that exists resembles His holy Self, and no attributes resemble His attributes. No other knowledge resembles the knowledge of Him held in hearts, and no love resembles love for Him. Thus, to Him belongs the “highest similitude,” just as He Himself is the Most High.
The Most High also says:
“Their likeness is that of one who kindled a fire.”
“The likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking Allah’s pleasure and out of their own firm conviction is that of a garden on high ground: heavy rain falls upon it, and it yields twice its produce. If no heavy rain falls upon it, then a drizzle suffices. And Allah sees all that you do.”
And there are other such passages.
