And He says:

“Indeed, Allah is the Provider, the Possessor of power, the All-Strong.”

And He says:

“And the heaven We built with might,”

meaning, with strength. And He says:

“My mercy encompasses all things.”

And He relates the words of His angels:

“Our Lord, You encompass all things in mercy and knowledge.”

And He says:

“Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him.”

And He says:

“And the pleasure of Allah is greater.”

And He says:

“Allah is angry with them and has cursed them.”

And He says:

“Anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world will befall them.”

And He, Most High, says:

“And Allah spoke to Moses directly.”

And He says:

“Among them were those to whom Allah spoke.”

And He says:

“The word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice.”

And He says:

“Indeed, I am with you both, hearing and seeing.”

And He says:

“And Allah is ever All-Hearing, All-Seeing.”

And He says:

“What prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My two hands?”

And He, Most High, says:

“He loves them, and they love Him.”

And He, Most High, says:

“Are they waiting for anything but that Allah should come to them in canopies of clouds, along with the angels?”

And He, Most High, says:

“And your Lord comes, with the angels, rank upon rank.”

There are many similar passages. What is said concerning some of these attributes applies equally to the others. The way of the early generations of this community and its leading scholars is to describe Allah as He has described Himself and as His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, has described Him, without distortion or negation, and without describing how His attributes are or likening them to those of created beings.

It is therefore impermissible to deny the attributes with which Allah Most High has described Himself, just as it is impermissible to liken them to the attributes of created beings. Rather, He—glorified be He—is as He says:

“There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.”

There is nothing like Him in His essence, His attributes, or His actions.
