And Allah Most High has related that Pharaoh denied “the Maker” with his tongue, saying:
“What is the Lord of all worlds?”
He sought to ascend so that he might look upon the God of Moses. Had Moses not told him that his God was above, he would not have sought to do so, for Pharaoh himself did not acknowledge Him. Had Moses not told him this, neither Pharaoh nor Moses would have affirmed that Allah is above. Pharaoh would therefore have had no reason to seek to look upon Him, nor would this have served his intended deception of his people by claiming that he had ascended to the God of Moses. Ascending to Him would have been no different from descending into wells and rivers, which would have been easier for him, without his having to undertake the construction of the lofty tower.
“When our Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was taken up on the night of the Night Journey, he found Adam, peace be upon him, in the first heaven; John and Jesus in the second; Joseph in the third; Idrīs in the fourth; and Aaron in the fifth. Then he found Moses and Abraham. He then ascended to his Lord, who enjoined fifty prayers upon him. He then returned to Moses, who said to him, ‘Return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the burden for your community, for your community cannot bear that.’ He said, ‘So I returned to my Lord and asked Him to lighten the burden for my community.’ He related that he went back to Moses and then returned to his Lord several times.”
Thus Moses spoke the truth in saying that his Lord is above the heavens, whereas Pharaoh accused Moses of lying about this. The “Jahmī deniers” agree with Pharaoh’s people, the leaders of misguidance, while the “adherents of the Sunnah and affirmation” agree with the family of Abraham, the leaders of guidance. Allah Most High says:
“We granted him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them all righteous.”
“And We made them leaders who guided
