Now that this is clear, the obligation to affirm that Allah Most High is on high, and related matters, becomes evident in several ways.

First: the Quran, the widely transmitted reports of the Sunnah—whether mass-transmitted or otherwise—and the statements of the earliest forerunners, the Successors, and the rest of the first three generations are replete with affirmations that Allah Most High is above His Throne. They convey this through various kinds of evidence, descriptions, and expressions. Sometimes He states that He created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rose over the Throne. He mentions rising over the Throne in seven places.

Sometimes He speaks of things ascending, rising, and being raised to Him, as in His words:

“Rather, Allah raised him to Himself.”

“I will take you and raise you to Myself.”

“The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him.”

And His words:

“To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it.”

Sometimes He speaks of their coming down from Him or from His presence, as in His words:

“Those to whom We have given the Scripture know that it has been sent down from your Lord in truth.”

“Say: The Holy Spirit has brought it down from your Lord in truth.”

“Hā Mīm. A revelation from the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.”

“Hā Mīm. The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise.”
