And more than one of the early generations said that “wisdom” is the Sunnah. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Indeed, I have been given the Book and something like it along with it.”

We must therefore follow whatever is established from his Sunnah, whether it is said to be in the Quran, though we have not understood it, or is said not to be in the Quran. Likewise, we must follow the earliest forerunners and those who followed them in righteousness in whatever they agreed upon, whether it is said to have been explicitly stated in the Sunnah, though no report of it has reached us, or to be something they inferred and derived from the Book and the Sunnah through their scholarly reasoning.
