This also includes his command to ask Allah to grant him al-wasīlah (a rank in Paradise), eminence, and the Praiseworthy Station. It is established in Sahīh Muslim, on the authority of ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Amr, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“When you hear the caller to prayer, repeat what he says, then invoke blessings upon me, for whoever invokes blessings upon me once, Allah will bless him ten times. Then ask Allah to grant me al-wasīlah, for it is a rank in Paradise reserved for only one of Allah’s servants, and I hope to be that servant. Whoever asks Allah to grant me al-wasīlah will be entitled to my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.”
In Sahīh al-Bukhārī, it is reported on the authority of Jābir that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Whoever says upon hearing the call to prayer, ‘O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the prayer to be established, grant Muhammad al-wasīlah, eminence, and the lofty rank, and raise him to the Praiseworthy Station which You have promised him. Indeed, You never fail in Your promise,’ will be entitled to my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.”
Thus, he encouraged Muslims to ask Allah to grant him al-wasīlah and explained that whoever asks for it on his behalf will be entitled to his intercession on the Day of Resurrection. Likewise, whoever invokes blessings upon him once, Allah will bless him ten times, for the reward corresponds to the deed.
Another example is the hadith narrated by Ahmad, Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī—who graded it authentic—and Ibn Mājah:
“‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb asked the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for permission to perform ‘umrah (the lesser pilgrimage). He gave him permission, then said, ‘My brother, do not forget us in your supplications.’”
The Prophet’s request that ‘Umar supplicate for him is like his request that he invoke blessings and peace upon him and ask Allah to grant him al-wasīlah and the lofty rank. It is also like his request that he perform all other righteous deeds: his purpose is to benefit the person he addresses and to show him kindness. He himself, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, also benefits from teaching them what is good and commanding them to do it, as well as from the righteous deeds they perform and their supplications for him.
