with all His names and attributes, as He says:
‘The Most Merciful rose over the Throne.’
‘He directs affairs from heaven to earth.’
We do not say that He is on earth as He is in heaven upon His Throne, for He knows what happens to His servants: ‘Then it ascends to Him.’”
He went on to say:
“We believe that Allah Most High created Paradise and Hell, and that they were created to endure, not to perish.”
He went on to say:
“We believe that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ascended in person to the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary.”
He went on to say:
“We believe that Allah took two handfuls and said, ‘These are for Paradise, and these are for Hell.’
“We believe that the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, has a ‘Pool,’ and we believe that he is the first to intercede and the first whose intercession is accepted.”
He mentioned the “Bridge,” the “Balance,” and “death,” and that a person who is killed dies at his appointed time, having received his allotted provision in full.
He went on to say:
“Among our beliefs is that Allah descends every night to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, stretches out His hand, and says, ‘Is there anyone asking?’”—and he cited the rest of the hadith—“and on the night of mid-Sha'bān and the afternoon of the day of Arafah.”
He mentioned the hadith concerning this.
He said:
“We believe that Allah Most High truly spoke to Moses and took Abraham as an intimate friend, and that intimate friendship is distinct from poverty—not as the people of innovation claim. We believe that Allah Most High singled out Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for the vision, and took him as an intimate friend just as He took Abraham as an intimate friend. We believe that Allah Most High alone possesses the key to five matters of the unseen, which none but Allah knows: ‘Indeed, Allah alone has knowledge of the Hour’”—to the end of the verse.
