knew that, when He manifested Himself to them on the Day of Resurrection, they would see of Him what they had previously believed in and what he had denied.

The Muslims asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied, ‘Do you have any difficulty seeing the sun when no clouds obscure it?’

They said, ‘No.’

He asked, ‘Do you have any difficulty seeing the moon on the night of the full moon when no clouds obscure it?’

They said, ‘No.’

He said, ‘You will likewise see your Lord on that Day.’

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, also said:

‘The Fire will not be filled until the Compeller places His foot in it. Then it will say, “Enough, enough!” and its parts will draw together.’

He said to Thābit ibn Qays:

‘Allah has indeed laughed at what you did for your guest last night.’

According to what has reached us, he also said:

‘Allah Most High indeed laughs at your distress and despair, and at how swiftly you are answered.’

An Arab man asked him, ‘Does our Lord really laugh?’

He replied, ‘Yes.’

The man said, ‘We shall not lack goodness from a Lord who laughs.’

There are more reports like these than we can count. Allah Most High says:

‘And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.’

‘And be patient for the judgment of your Lord, for indeed, you are under Our eyes.’

Allah Most High also says:

‘And that you would be brought up under My eye.’

And He says:

‘What prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My two hands?’

And He says:

‘The entire earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above what they associate with Him.’

By Allah, nothing showed them the greatness of what He has described of Himself, and of what His grasp encompasses, except the smallness of the corresponding grasp they themselves possess. Indeed, this is what was instilled in their minds and fashioned in accordance with their hearts’ understanding.
