He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was also asked:

There is a group of Muslims who affirm the two testimonies of faith, fast, perform Hajj, pay zakat, and strive against their own souls to please Allah. Yet they declare those who insult the Companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to be unbelievers. They hold out no hope that anyone who repents of this will have his repentance accepted, and maintain that whoever persists in it will remain in Hell forever. They call those who affirm that such people’s repentance can be accepted “al-Rajawiyya.” They pray only with people whose creed they have ascertained. None of them says anything or asks about anything without saying, “If Allah wills.” Are they correct in their actions, or mistaken in their statements?

He replied:

Praise be to Allah. These people are Muslims, entitled to what other Muslims like them are entitled to. Allah rewards them for their faith in Allah and His Messenger and their obedience to Allah and His Messenger. Their mistakes in these matters do not nullify their faith and piety. They are like other groups of Muslims who are correct in most of what they believe and practise, but mistaken in a few matters. These people therefore have the same standing as other Muslims like them.
