and a snake fell from the ceiling, entered our circle, approached that non-Arab man, and struck him, killing him.”

A similar incident is related by al-Tabarānī in his “Book of the Sunnah,” from Zakariyyā ibn Yahyā al-Sājī, who said:

“We used to visit certain shaykhs to hear the hadith of Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. We quickened our pace, accompanied by an irreverent young man. He said, ‘Lift your feet off the angels’ wings! Do not break them!’”

He continued: “He carried on until his legs failed him.”

There are other similar incidents. We ask Allah Most High to enable us to hold fast to His Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and to follow the evidence He has established. Allah, glorified is He, knows best.

فَوَقَعَتْ حَيَّةٌ مِنْ السَّقْفِ وَجَاءَتْ حَتَّى دَخَلَتْ الْحَلْقَةَ وَذَهَبَتْ إلَى ذَلِكَ الْأَعْجَمِيِّ فَضَرَبَتْهُ فَقَتَلَتْهُ. وَنَظِيرُ هَذِهِ مَا ذَكَرَهُ الطَّبَرَانِي فِي " كِتَابِ السُّنَّةِ " عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ يَحْيَى السَّاجِيَّ قَالَ: كُنَّا نَخْتَلِفُ إلَى بَعْضِ الشُّيُوخِ لِسَمَاعِ حَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاسْتَرَعْنَا فِي الْمَشْيِ وَمَعَنَا شَابٌّ مَاجِنٌ. فَقَالَ: ارْفَعُوا أَرْجُلَكُمْ عَنْ أَجْنِحَةِ الْمَلَائِكَةِ. لَا تَكْسِرُوهَا. قَالَ: فَمَا زَالَ حَتَّى جَفَتْهُ رِجْلَاهُ وَلِهَذَا نَظَائِرُ نَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى الِاعْتِصَامَ بِكِتَابِهِ وَسُنَّةِ رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاتِّبَاعَ مَا أَقَامَ مِنْ دَلِيلِهِ وَاَللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ أَعْلَمُ.
