Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Fourth:
All the Companions accepted and acted upon Abū Hurayrah’s hadith, including ʿUmar, Ibn ʿUmar, Ibn ʿAbbās, and ʿĀʾishah. Anyone who examines the hadith collections will recognize this.

Fifth:
None of the Companions—not ʿUmar or anyone else—criticized anything narrated by Abū Hurayrah by saying, “He was mistaken in this hadith.” Rather, Abū Hurayrah would sit beside ʿĀʾishah’s chamber, narrating hadith and saying:

“O lady of this chamber, do you dispute anything I am saying?”

When ʿĀʾishah finished her prayer, she did not dispute what he had narrated, but said:

“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not relate hadith in rapid succession as you do. Rather, he would speak in such a manner that someone counting his words could have memorized them.”

Thus, she objected to his manner of delivery, not to what he conveyed.

Likewise, Ibn ʿUmar was asked:

“Do you dispute anything that Abū Hurayrah narrates?”

He replied:

“No, but he narrated, while we held back out of apprehension.”

Abū Hurayrah said, “What fault is it of mine if I remembered and they forgot?”

They considered the sheer number of his narrations extraordinary, to the point that some would say, “Abū Hurayrah narrates too much.” In response,

{Abū Hurayrah said: “People say, ‘Abū Hurayrah narrates too much,’ and before Allah we shall meet. My brothers among the Emigrants were kept busy trading in the marketplaces, while my brothers among the Helpers were kept busy tending their properties. I was a poor man who stayed close to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Thus, I was present when they were absent, and I remembered when they forgot. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, once related something to us, then said, ‘Which of you will spread out his garment?’ I spread out my garment, and he prayed for me. Thereafter, I never forgot anything I heard from him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.”}
