And in the two Sahīh collections, it is reported that the Prophet said concerning Ammār:
“He will be killed by the transgressing faction.”
Allah Most High says in the Quran:
“If two groups of believers fight each other, make peace between them. But if one of them transgresses against the other, fight the transgressing group until it returns to Allah’s command. If it returns, make peace between them with justice and act equitably. Indeed, Allah loves those who act equitably.”
Thus, the Quran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the early generations establish that they were believers and Muslims, and that Alī ibn Abī Tālib and those with him were closer to the truth than the group fighting against him. And Allah knows best.
وَفِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ:
"
{تَقْتُلُهُ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ}
وَقَدْ قَالَ تَعَالَى فِي الْقُرْآنِ:
{وَإِنْ طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا فَإِنْ بَغَتْ إحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى الْأُخْرَى فَقَاتِلُوا الَّتِي تَبْغِي حَتَّى تَفِيءَ إلَى أَمْرِ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ فَاءَتْ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا بِالْعَدْلِ وَأَقْسِطُوا إنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ}
. فَثَبَتَ بِالْكِتَابِ وَالسُّنَّةِ وَإِجْمَاعِ السَّلَفِ عَلَى أَنَّهُمْ مُؤْمِنُونَ مُسْلِمُونَ وَأَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَاَلَّذِينَ مَعَهُ كَانُوا أَوْلَى بِالْحَقِّ مِنْ الطَّائِفَةِ الْمُقَاتِلَةِ لَهُ وَاَللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.
