It is also established in the two Sahīh collections that Abū Hurayra said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘Last night, a cunning, wicked jinn came to attack me and interrupt my prayer. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, gave me power over him, and I throttled him. I wanted to seize him and tie him to a pillar in the mosque so that you could see him in the morning. Then I remembered the words of Solomon, peace be upon him: “My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that will belong to no one after me.” So Allah Most High drove him away, humiliated.’”
Ā’isha reported:
“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was praying when Satan came to him. He seized him, threw him down, and strangled him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘I felt the coolness of his tongue against my hand. Had it not been for Solomon’s supplication, he would have remained bound until morning for people to see.’”
Al-Nasā’ī recorded this report, and its chain of transmission meets al-Bukhārī’s criteria, as Abū Abd Allāh al-Maqdisī stated in his selected collection, which is superior to al-Hākim’s Sahīh.
Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī reported:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was performing the dawn prayer, with Abū Sa‘īd behind him, when his recitation became confused. When he finished his prayer, he said: ‘If only you had seen me with Iblīs! I reached out with my hand and kept strangling him until I felt the coolness of his saliva between these two fingers of mine—the thumb and the finger next to it. Had it not been for the supplication of my brother Solomon, he would have remained tied to one of the mosque’s pillars until morning, with the children of Medina playing with him. Whoever can prevent anyone from coming between him and the direction of prayer should do so.’”
Imam Ahmad related it in his Musnad, and Abū Dāwūd in his Sunan.
In Sahīh Muslim, Abū al-Dardā’ said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stood up to pray. We heard him say, ‘I seek refuge in Allah from you.’ Then he said, ‘I curse you with Allah’s curse,’ three times, and stretched out his hand as though reaching for something. When he finished his prayer, we said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we heard you say something during the prayer that we had never heard you say before, and we saw you stretch out your hand.’ He said, ‘The enemy of Allah
