He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was asked:
What is the ruling on an animal that was slaughtered and bled profusely but did not move?
He answered:
If the blood that flows from it is the blood that ordinarily flows from a living animal when slaughtered, then it is lawful to eat it according to the stronger of the two scholarly opinions. Allah Most High knows best.
He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was asked:
If “a strangled animal and others in the same category” reach a condition beyond which they cannot survive, does prescribed slaughter still make them lawful to eat? And what about an animal that falls into a well or river and cannot be slaughtered?
He answered:
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds. There is a well-known scholarly disagreement concerning this issue. The strongest opinion is that if the animal moves when slaughtered and its blood flows, it may be eaten. This is what is reported from the Companions and is supported by the Quran and Sunnah. Allah Most High says:
“and animals that have been strangled”—through to His words—“except those you slaughter.”
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Eat whatever has had its blood made to flow and Allah’s name mentioned over it.”
