The shaykh—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was asked:
“Is it authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that Allah, Blessed and Most High, brought his parents back to life for him, so that they embraced Islam through him and then died again?”
He replied:
No hadith scholar has authenticated this report. Rather, those versed in hadith unanimously agree that it is a lie and a fabrication. Although Abū Bakr—meaning al-Khatīb—transmitted a report to this effect in his book al-Sābiq wa-l-Lāhiq (Earlier and Later Transmitters), Abū al-Qāsim al-Suhaylī mentioned it in Sharh al-Sīra (Commentary on the Prophet’s Biography) with a chain of transmission containing unknown narrators, and Abū ‘Abd Allāh al-Qurtubī mentioned it in al-Tadhkira (The Reminder) and similar works, there is no disagreement among those versed in hadith that it is one of the most obvious fabrications, as scholars have explicitly stated.
It is not found in the authoritative hadith books: neither in the Sahīh collections, nor in the Sunan or Musnad collections, nor in other well-known hadith works. Nor have the authors of works on the Prophet’s military campaigns and Quranic exegesis mentioned it, even though they may transmit weak reports alongside authentic ones.
For its obvious falsehood cannot escape anyone committed to religion. Had such an event occurred, there would have been every incentive and reason to transmit it, for it would have been among the greatest departures from the ordinary course of events in two respects:
