Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

, and Maqil said to him: ‘I will relate to you a hadith that I heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: “Whenever Allah entrusts a servant with a people’s care, and he dies while betraying their trust, Allah forbids him Paradise.”’”

Another narration in Muslim reads:

“No ruler who assumes responsibility for any of the Muslims’ affairs, then fails to strive for their welfare and act sincerely toward them, will enter Paradise with them.”

In the two Sahīh collections, Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Indeed, each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is accountable for his flock. A man is a shepherd over his household and is accountable for them. A woman is a shepherd over her husband’s home and is accountable for it. A slave is a shepherd over his master’s property and is accountable for it. Indeed, each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is accountable for his flock.”

In the two Sahīh collections, Alī, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, dispatched an army and appointed a man to command them. The man lit a fire and said, ‘Enter it.’ Some wanted to enter it, while others said, ‘It is from the Fire that we have fled!’ This was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said to those who had wanted to enter it, ‘Had you entered it, you would have remained in it until the Day of Resurrection.’ He spoke kindly to the others and said, ‘There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah; obedience is only in what is right.’”
