is pleased with these things for us, the heart of a believer who loves what Allah loves cannot resent them, hating and disliking them and thus harbouring rancour toward them. Rather, the believer’s heart loves them and is pleased with them.
In Sahīh al-Bukhārī and Sahīh Muslim, and elsewhere, ‘Ubādah ibn al-Sāmit, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, accepted our pledge to hear and obey in hardship and ease, whether willing or unwilling, even when others are favoured over us; not to contest authority with those who hold it; and to speak or stand up for the truth wherever we may be, fearing no one’s reproach for Allah’s sake.”
Also in both Sahīhs, ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

In Sahīh Muslim, Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“You must hear and obey in hardship and ease, whether willing or unwilling, even when others are favoured over you.”
His words, “even when others are favoured over you,” and “even when others are favoured over us,” mean: even if those in authority favour themselves over you, treating you unfairly and withholding your rights. Thus, in both Sahīhs, Usayd ibn Hudayr, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
“A man of the Ansār spoke privately with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, ‘Will you not appoint me to office as you appointed so-and-so?’ He replied, ‘After me, you will encounter favouritism, so remain patient until you meet me at the Cistern.’”
Likewise, in both Sahīhs, ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ūd said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘After me, there will be favouritism and things you will disapprove of.’ They said:
