He—may Allah sanctify his soul—was asked:
“A man struck another man, displacing his jaw and knocking out his canine teeth. His jaw was then stitched with needles. What compensation is due?”
He replied:
“For each tooth, one-twentieth of the full blood money is due: fifty dinars, five camels, or six hundred dirhams. Assessed compensation is due for the displacement of the jaw. The injured person is valued as though he were an uninjured slave, then valued as though he were a slave with that injury. The difference between the two valuations is then determined, and the corresponding proportion of the full blood money is payable. If the blow was of a kind that ordinarily knocks out teeth, the injured person is entitled to retaliation, meaning that he may have the corresponding teeth removed from his assailant.”
He—may Allah have mercy on him—was asked:
“Concerning a Muslim who deliberately killed another Muslim without right, then subsequently repented: may it be hoped that his repentance will be accepted and that he will escape the Fire, or not? Must he pay blood money, or not?”
He replied:
“One who kills a person without right has ‘two claims’ against him: a claim belonging to Allah, because he has transgressed Allah’s limits and violated what He has made inviolable. Allah forgives this sin through sincere repentance, as He says,
