He was asked—may Allah have mercy on him—about a man who divorced his wife three times and required her to complete her waiting period in her residence. She left before completing it, and her husband looked for her but could not find her. Was she entitled to maintenance during the waiting period?
He replied:
“She is not entitled to maintenance, nor may she claim maintenance for the past portion of such a waiting period according to any of the four schools. And Allah knows best.”
He was asked—may Allah have mercy on him—about a man whose wife died, leaving him three daughters. He entrusted them to his father-in-law and mother-in-law, saying, “Take them to your town until I come to them.” He then remained away from them for three years. Was their father liable for their maintenance and clothing during that period?
He replied:
“They may recover from their father whatever they reasonably spent on the daughters with the intention of seeking reimbursement from him, provided that he was obliged to maintain them. And Allah knows best.”
