He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was asked:
Concerning a man who died, whose wife observed her waiting period for forty days, but was unable to disobey the sultan’s decree and then travelled to Cairo, without adorning herself with perfume or anything else: is it permissible to propose marriage to her?
He replied:
The waiting period ends after four months and ten days. If any of this period remains, she must complete it in her home and not go out by night or day except out of necessity. She must avoid adornment and perfume on her body and clothes. She may eat whatever lawful food she wishes, smell fruit, and meet anyone whom she may lawfully meet outside the waiting period. However, if someone proposes marriage to her, she must not explicitly accept his proposal. Allah knows best.
He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was asked:
Concerning a woman who intended to perform Hajj with her husband, but whose husband died in Shaʿbān: is she permitted to perform Hajj?
He replied:
She may not travel for Hajj during the waiting period following her husband’s death, according to the schools of the four imams.
