He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was asked:

A man had a wife whom his mother did not want him to remain with, so he divorced her. He then said, “Any woman I marry from this city within the walls”—neither his wife nor any other woman. If he takes his wife back or marries another woman from the city, will the marriage contract be valid?

He answered:

Yes, he may marry a woman from that city if he wishes, or from elsewhere if he wishes, and the marriage contract will be valid.

He—may Allah have mercy on him—was asked:

A man quarrelled with his wife and intended to say, “She is divorced once,” but his tongue slipped and he said “three times,” though that was not his intention. What is the ruling?

He answered:

Praise be to Allah. If his tongue slipped and he said “three” unintentionally, when he intended only one, then only one divorce takes effect. Indeed, even if he intended to say “pure” but his tongue slipped and he said “divorced,” no divorce takes effect as a matter between him and Allah. And Allah knows best.
