Paradise.” Al-Tirmidhī said: “This is a good hadith.”

Abū Hurayrah reported that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would command a woman to prostrate to her husband.”

Al-Tirmidhī narrated it and said: “This is a good hadith.” Abū Dāwūd also narrated it, with the wording:

“I would command women to prostrate to their husbands because of the rights Allah has given husbands over them.”

In the Musnad, Anas reported that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“It is not fitting for one human being to prostrate to another. Were it fitting for one human being to prostrate to another, I would command a woman to prostrate to her husband, so great is his right over her. By Him in whose hand is my soul, if he had a sore extending from his foot to the top of his head, oozing pus and blood-stained fluid, and she came to him and licked him, she would still not have fulfilled his right.”

In the Musnad and Sunan Ibn Mājah, ‘Ā’ishah reported that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would command a woman to prostrate to her husband. If a man commanded his wife to carry things from a red mountain to a black mountain, and from a black mountain to a red mountain, it would be proper for her to do so.”

That is, it would be her duty to do so.

Likewise, in the Musnad, Sunan Ibn Mājah, and Sahīh Ibn Hibbān, ‘Abd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā reported:

When Mu‘ādh returned from Syria, he prostrated to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—who asked: “What is this, Mu‘ādh?”

He replied: “I went to Syria and found them prostrating to their bishops and dignitaries, so I wished that we would do the same for you, Messenger of Allah.”

The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: “Do not do that. If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone other than Allah, I would command
