And He mentions the blasts of death and resurrection in His words:
“The Trumpet will be blown, and all those in the heavens and all those on earth will fall dead, except those whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.”
As for the exception, it includes the wide-eyed maidens in Paradise, for there is no death in Paradise, and it includes others as well. We cannot identify with certainty everyone whom Allah has excepted, for Allah has left this unspecified in His Book.
It is established in an authentic hadith that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“People will fall unconscious on the Day of Resurrection, and I will be the first to regain consciousness. I will find Moses holding on to a leg of the Throne, and I do not know whether he regained consciousness before me or was among those whom Allah excepted.”
Some have said that this swoon is a fourth occurrence, while others have said that it is one of those mentioned in the Quran.
In any case, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, withheld judgment concerning Moses: was he among those whom Allah excepted or not?
Since the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not tell us everyone whom Allah excepted, we cannot assert this with certainty. This is therefore like knowing the time of the Hour, the identities of the prophets, and other such matters about which he did not inform us. Such knowledge can only be obtained through transmitted reports.
And Allah knows best. May Allah bless Muhammad, his family, and his Companions, and grant them peace.
