Shaykh al-Islām—may Allah sanctify his soul—said:

Section

Allah mentions in several places in His Book the guardian angels entrusted with the children of Adam, who protect them and record their deeds. He, Most High, says:

“It is He who takes your souls by night and knows what you have done by day, then awakens you therein so that an appointed term may be fulfilled. Then to Him is your return.”

“He is the Subduer above His servants, and He sends guardians over you until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take his soul, and they never neglect their duty.”

He, Most High, also says:

“It is the same whether any of you conceals his speech or declares it openly, whether he hides by night or goes about openly by day.”

“For each person there are angels in succession, before him and behind him, guarding him by Allah’s command.”

He, Most High, also says:

“No! Rather, you deny the Judgment.”

“Yet over you are watchers,”

“noble recorders,”

“who know whatever you do.”

He, Most High, also says:

“By the heaven and the night visitor!”

“And what will make you know what the night visitor is?”

“It is the piercing star.”

“There is no soul without a guardian over it.”

He, Most High, also says:

“We certainly created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein.”

“As the two recording angels take down his deeds, one seated on the right and the other on the left.”

“He utters no word without a vigilant observer ready beside him.”

And He, Most High, says:
