For every individual human being has been created, and each is commanded to worship and observe ritual purification; yet no individual member of the community is himself a just community or the best community.

Furthermore, when one general term is paired with another, each individual covered by the first may be paired with every individual covered by the second, as in His saying:

“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All have believed in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers.”

For every believer believes in every angel, Book, and messenger. Alternatively, the two groups may be paired collectively, with both required to be considered as a whole, as in His saying:

“There was a sign for you in the two armies that met.”

For the encounter applies to each army when the two come together.

The pairing may also require only one of the two groups to be considered as a whole, as in His saying:

“You are the best community brought forth for mankind.”

For the community as a whole benefits people, whether they are together or apart.

Alternatively, the two groups may be paired by matching their respective individuals, so that each individual covered by either general term corresponds to one individual covered by the other. Thus one says, “The people put on their clothes,” or “The people mounted their animals.” Each person mounted his own animal and put on his own garment.

Likewise, when one says, “People love their children,” this means that each person loves his own child. Another example is His saying, glorified is He:

“Mothers shall breastfeed their children.”

That is, each mother breastfeeds her own child. This differs from saying, “People venerate the prophets,” for each person venerates every prophet.
