He replied:

He was asked:
A man found a lost item and, over several days, privately informed some people about it. It has remained in his possession for several years. What is the ruling concerning it?
He replied:
Praise be to Allah. It is not permissible for him to announce it in this manner. Rather, he must announce it publicly, but in general terms, by saying, “Who has lost some money?” or something similar. And Allah knows best.
