Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

He replied:

Praise be to Allah. According to the stronger of the two scholarly opinions, an orphan’s guardian may not dress him in silk, just as he may not give him wine to drink or carrion to eat. Whatever is forbidden to adult men, the guardian must keep boys away from it.

ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb tore some silk that he saw Ibn al-Zubayr wearing and said, “Do not dress them in silk.” The same applies to gold that men are forbidden to wear. As for accusations that the guardian is miserly, these can be countered by dressing the orphan in permissible clothing suitable for looking well-dressed on festivals and other occasions, such as Alexandrian garments and other clothing that provides elegance and adornment and dispels accusations of miserliness without involving anything forbidden.

Anyone to whom the truth has become clear may not turn away from it to something else. No one is obliged to follow anyone other than the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in everything he commands, forbids, permits, and prohibits. Allah knows best.

He replied:

If he sold before attaining sound judgment, his sale is invalid, especially if he had
