Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

and others, as Allah Most High says:

“Cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and transgression.”

He was asked:

A man purchased a house from another man for one thousand dirhams, although it was worth two thousand. Immediately, on the same date, the purchaser leased the house back to the seller for a number of months at a specified rent, while their private understanding was that this was a sale subject to redemption. Is this contract valid on these terms? Is the original seller liable for the rent over the lease period or not?

It has been reported from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, Ibn Masʿūd and Ibn ʿAbbās—may Allah be pleased with them—that “the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—forbade a loan that yields a benefit.” Does this transaction fall into that category or not?

Is it also reported in a hadith concerning the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—that:

“He borrowed a young camel from a man. Then camels collected as obligatory charity came to him, and he instructed me to repay the man with a young camel. I said, ‘Among the camels I could find only a fine rubāʿī camel.’ The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, ‘Give it to him, for the best of you are those who are best in repaying their debts.’”

Is this an authentic hadith or not?

He replied:

If the intention is for one of them to take dirhams from the other
