He was asked:

Concerning dealings with the Tatars: are these permissible for those who transact with them?

He replied:

Dealings with the Tatars are permissible insofar as dealings with others like them are permissible, and prohibited insofar as dealings with others like them are prohibited. A man may buy their livestock, horses, and similar possessions, just as he may buy livestock and horses from the Turkmen, Bedouins, and Kurds. He may also sell them food, clothing, and similar goods that he may sell to others like them. But selling them—or anyone else—things that help them commit prohibited acts, such as horses and weapons for someone who will use them in unlawful fighting, is not permissible.

Allah Most High says:

“Cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.”

The Sunan collections report that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,

“cursed ten in connection with wine: he cursed wine itself, the one who presses it, the one who has it pressed, the one who carries it, the one to whom it is carried, its seller, its purchaser, the one who serves it, the one who drinks it, and the one who consumes its proceeds.”

Thus, he cursed the one who presses it, even though he merely presses grapes to produce juice. Juice is lawful and can be made into vinegar, syrup, and other things.
