or their pledge, nor have we granted their request, until the stipulated conditions are implemented, the stated commitments are fulfilled, and the honor of Islam and the Sunnah becomes manifest to the elite and the common people through good deeds that erase their misdeeds.

Allah has provided means of honoring Islam and the Sunnah and suppressing unbelief and religious innovation through developments too lengthy to describe in a letter. Likewise, events have unfolded that have brought honor to Islam and subdued the Jews and Christians, after they had become overbearing and acquired power, and had received support from those who supported them in a course of action involving great humiliation for people. Allah graciously employed us to carry out some of what He and His Messenger commanded. This brought honor to the Muslims, united their hearts, and led them to stand up against the Jews and Christians, while bringing humiliation upon the polytheists and the People of the Book. These are among Allah’s greatest blessings upon His believing servants. Describing this would take too long.

I have sent you a letter requesting the work I wrote concerning churches. It consists of several quires in my handwriting, in half-baladī format. Please send it, Allah Most High willing, and seek the assistance of Shaykh Jamāl al-Dīn al-Mizzī, for he can look through the books and locate what is wanted. Also send Judge Abū Ya‘lā’s commentary in the handwriting of Judge Abū al-Husayn—all eleven volumes, if possible; otherwise, one, two, or three volumes from the beginning. He also mentioned other books that he requested from them.
