Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

He—may Allah have mercy on him—was also asked:

The questioner said: “Allah hears supplication through Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for he is the means and the intermediary.”

The Answer

He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. If he means that believing in Muhammad, obeying him, and invoking blessings and peace upon him are a means by which a servant’s supplication is accepted and rewarded, then he has spoken the truth.

But if he means that Allah does not answer anyone’s supplication until that person presents it to a created being or adjures Allah by that being, or that the prophets themselves—without belief in them, obedience to them, or their intercession—are a means for supplication to be answered, then he has spoken falsely in this. And Allah knows best.”
