two courses:
either to refrain from campaigning with them, thereby allowing others who pose a greater threat to religious and worldly life to gain the upper hand; or to campaign under the immoral ruler, thereby repelling those who are even more immoral and upholding most of the laws of Islam, even if it is impossible to uphold them all. This is what is obligatory in this situation and all comparable situations. Indeed, many military campaigns after the Rightly Guided Caliphs took place only in this manner.

It is authentically reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Goodness is bound to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection: reward and spoils of war.”

This authentic hadith supports the meaning of what Abū Dāwūd narrated in his Sunan from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“Military campaigns will continue from the time Allah sent me until the last of my community fight the Dajjāl. Neither the injustice of an unjust ruler nor the justice of a just ruler will bring them to an end.”

It also supports what has been widely reported from him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“A group of my community will continue to prevail upon the truth, unharmed by those who oppose them, until the Day of Resurrection.”

There are other such texts which Ahl al-Sunnah wa-l-Jamā‘ah, across all their groups, have agreed to act upon by waging jihad against those against whom it is warranted, under rulers both righteous and immoral. This is contrary to the Rāfidah and the Khawārij, who have departed from the Sunnah and the community.

This is despite his foretelling, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“Unjust, treacherous, immoral rulers will come to power. Whoever believes their lies and assists them is not of me, nor am I of him
