He summoned him and found him to be a handsome young man. He had his head shaved, but this only increased his beauty, so he banished him to Basra lest women be tempted by him.

It is also related of him that he learned of a man with whom boys would sit, and he forbade them to keep his company. Thus, if a boy’s appearance is feared to be a temptation to men or women, his guardian should be prevented from displaying him unnecessarily or enhancing his beauty, especially by pampering him in bathhouses and bringing him to gatherings of entertainment and singing. Such conduct warrants discretionary punishment. Likewise, anyone whose immoral conduct has become apparent should be prevented from owning handsome, beardless slave boys, and they should be separated from him.
