and the more extreme case to illustrate the less extreme—I say:
You know how many fabricated lies, mistaken suppositions and corrupt desires have featured in this affair—more than can be described. Yet all the lies and falsehoods that have been uttered are, for us, a blessing and a source of good. Allah Most High says:
“Indeed, those who brought the slander are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather, it is good for you. Each of them will bear the sin he has earned, and the one among them who took the greatest share in it will have a tremendous punishment.”
Allah has revealed enough of the light and proof of the truth to refute the liar’s falsehood and slander. I therefore do not wish retribution to be taken against anyone for lying about me, wronging me or transgressing against me, for I have pardoned every Muslim. I love goodness for all Muslims and desire for every believer the good that I desire for myself. Those who lied and acted unjustly are absolved of any claim on my part. As for Allah’s rights, if they repent, Allah will accept their repentance; otherwise, Allah’s judgment will take effect upon them.
If a person could be thanked for his wrongdoing, I would thank everyone who played a part in bringing about this affair, because of the good that results from it in this world
