Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

And He Most High said:

“So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.”

“Indeed, it is your enemy who is cut off.”

Whoever hates anything that the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, brought has a share in this fate. Thus, when Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh was told, “There are people in the mosque who sit and gather others around them,” he replied: “Whoever sits to address people will have people sit with him. But the people of the Sunnah endure, and their memory endures, whereas the people of innovation die, and their memory dies with them.”

That is because the people of innovation hated some of what the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, brought, so He cut them off accordingly. Those who proclaimed what the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, brought came to have a share in His words, Most High:

“And We raised high your renown.”

Whatever happiness in this world and the Hereafter Allah has bestowed upon His Prophet, the believers who follow him have a share in it according to their faith. Whatever belongs exclusively to prophethood and messengership is shared by none of his community. But whatever constitutes a reward for faith and righteous deeds is shared by every believer in proportion to these.

Allah Most High says:

“It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion.”

This is accomplished through proof and explanation, through force and speech, and continues until the Day of Resurrection. However, jihad in Mecca was through knowledge and explanation, while jihad in Medina added force and arms to the Meccan form. He Most High said:

“So do not obey the disbelievers, but strive mightily against them with it.”

Surah al-Furqān was revealed in Mecca, and he strove against them only through speech and explanation. Yet one refrains from falsehood; clarification had only been given in the Meccan revelation.

“And We will surely test you until
