do not grasp the realities of what he brought; they possess only a portion of it.

“As for those who are guided, He increases them in guidance and grants them their God-consciousness.”

Allah Most High also says:

“As for those who strive for Our sake, We will surely guide them to Our ways.”

Striving thus brings guidance to the path leading to Him.

Allah Most High says:

“O Prophet, Allah is sufficient for you and for the believers who follow you.”

Thus, Allah is sufficient for everyone who follows the Messenger: He suffices him, guides him and helps him—that is, He provides the sufficiency and guidance he needs, and is his helper and provider.

Man is unjust and ignorant, as Allah Most High says:

“We offered the Trust to the heavens, the earth and the mountains”—up to His words: “deeply unjust and ignorant.”

The ultimate goal of Allah’s pious allies, His successful party and His victorious host is repentance. Allah Most High says:

“Then glorify your Lord with praise and seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.”

Each person’s repentance is appropriate to him, according to his station and condition. Hence, the religion is summed up in affirming Allah’s oneness and seeking forgiveness. Allah Most High says:

“Know, then, that none is worthy of worship but Allah, and seek forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and women.”

Allah Most High also says:

“So remain upright in devotion to Him and seek His forgiveness.”

And Allah Most High says:

“Seek your Lord’s forgiveness, then repent to Him.”

Fulfilling all commands and refraining from all prohibitions fall within the affirmation of Allah’s oneness expressed in the words, “None is worthy of worship but Allah.” For if a person does not perform acts of obedience for Allah’s sake and refrain from sins for Allah’s sake, Allah will not accept his deeds. Allah Most High says:

“Allah accepts only from the God-fearing.”

Talq ibn Habīb said: “God-consciousness means acting in obedience to Allah, guided by a light
