performs Hajj with the Muslims is greater than one who makes the pilgrimage through the air.

Thus, Shaykh Ibrāhīm al-Jaʿbarī met some people who used to make the pilgrimage through the air. They asked him to accompany them, but he said, “This Hajj does not discharge your obligation until you perform Hajj as the Muslims do, and as the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and his Companions did.” They agreed to this, and after completing Hajj they said, “We have never performed a more blessed pilgrimage than this one: in it we tasted the sweetness of worshipping Allah and obeying Him.” This happens only at certain times; it is not available to a person whenever he seeks it.

Likewise, hidden matters are sometimes disclosed to Allah’s friends and sometimes to the brethren of the devils. Those whose states are satanic may consume foul foods, even eating excrement and other filthy things under the influence of a satanic state. They are blameworthy for this. For Allah’s friends are those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, who commands them to do what is right, forbids them from what is wrong, permits them wholesome things, and forbids them foul things. Whoever consumes foul things has satanic states, for these states are the fruits of one’s deeds.

Eating wholesome things and doing righteous deeds give rise to states that come from the Most Merciful, including disclosures of hidden matters and effects that Allah and His Messenger love. Eating foul things and committing wrongful deeds give rise to satanic states that Allah and His Messenger hate. The protectors of the Tatars are among these people.
