and the Sunnah under the rule of Nūr al-Dīn and Saladin. Muslims who followed the Sunnah settled there, and the cause of faith and the Sunnah gained a measure of ascendancy. Yet much hypocrisy and religious innovation remained concealed there. In every age, Allah brings forth there manifestations of faith and the Sunnah previously unmentioned, while the hypocrisy and ignorance already notorious there grow rampant.
We ask Allah to make manifest throughout all lands the guidance and rectitude that He loves and approves; to increase the good bestowed upon His servants through the ascendancy of Islam and the Sunnah; and to fulfil His promise in the Quran that His word will reign supreme and the people of faith will prevail.
Many people have adopted beliefs and character traits that originate with the disbelievers and hypocrites, without being aware of this. Likewise, many participate with Christians in their festivals and venerate the places, times, and practices that Christians venerate. A person may do so without intending to venerate disbelief, or even knowing that these things are distinctive to them. Once he learns this, he desists and repents.
Similarly, many people have acquired some of the traits of the hypocrites without knowing that these are hypocritical traits. Once a person learns this, he repents to Allah. May Allah accept our repentance and his, and that of all sinners
