A full account of these people’s misguidance would be lengthy. The point here is simply that they make this the foundation of their religion. Then they say: “If the true sect is divided between two opinions, the proponent of one being known and the proponent of the other unknown, then the opinion whose proponent is unknown is the truth.” This is how I found it in the books of their leading scholars. They justified it by saying that the infallible imam would be among those holding the opinion whose proponent is unknown. This is the height of ignorance and misguidance.

The same applies to everything they transmit on this subject. They relate biographies, stories, and hadiths, but if you ask them for their chains of transmission, they do not refer you to anyone known for truthfulness. Rather, it is enough for one of them to have heard it from someone like himself, or to have read it in a book containing no known chain of transmission. If they do name someone, he is among those notorious for lying and fabrication. It is inconceivable that they should ever transmit anything unknown to the scholars of the Sunnah except through an unidentified person or someone known for lying.
