Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

buried one of his Companions, he would stand at his grave and say: ‘Ask that he be granted steadfastness, for he is now being questioned.’”

It is reported in the Sahīh that he used to teach his Companions to say when visiting graves:

“Peace be upon you, inhabitants of this abode of believers. We shall, if Allah wills, join you. May Allah have mercy on those of us and you who have gone before and those who follow. We ask Allah for well-being for ourselves and for you. O Allah, do not deprive us of our reward on their account, do not subject us to trials after them, and forgive us and them.”

Rather, Allah’s religion calls for venerating the houses of Allah alone, who has no partner: the mosques, where prayer—both congregational and individual—devotional retreat, and all other bodily acts of worship and acts of worship of the heart are prescribed, including recitation, remembrance of Allah, and supplication to Him.

Allah Most High says:

“The mosques belong to Allah, so do not invoke anyone alongside Allah.”

He Most High also says:

“Say, ‘My Lord has commanded justice. Direct your faces to Him at every place of worship.’”

He Most High also says:

“The mosques of Allah are maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, give zakah, and fear none but Allah. It is they who may be among the rightly guided.”

He Most High also says:

“In houses which Allah has ordered to be raised and in which His name is to be mentioned, men glorify Him morning and evening—men whom neither trade nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allah, establishing prayer, and giving zakah. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be turned about, so that Allah may reward them according to the best of what they did and grant them still more out of His bounty. Allah provides for whomever He wills without measure.”

This is the religion of the Muslims, who worship Allah with sincere devotion to Him alone.
