And for this reason, it was better for the Companions to reside in Medina, for the sake of migration and jihad.

Allah Most High is the One who created all beings, and He is the One who guides them, provides for them, and grants them victory. None besides Him has any power over these things, as He Most High says:

“Say, ‘Call upon those whom you claim besides Allah. They possess not an atom’s weight in the heavens or on earth, nor do they have any share in either, nor does He have any helper among them.’”

“Intercession does not benefit with Him except for those to whom He gives permission.”

They have explained this to mean that permission is given both to the intercessor and to the one on whose behalf intercession is made. For Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the foremost of the intercessors on the Day of Resurrection, said concerning his wish to intercede:

“When I see my Lord, I will fall down in prostration before Him and praise Him with words of praise that He will inspire me with, which I do not know how to offer now. Then I will be told: ‘Raise your head. Speak, and you will be heard; ask, and you will be given; intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.’” He said: “Then He will set a limit for me, and I will admit them into Paradise.”

He mentioned the same regarding the second and third times. For this reason, He Most High says:

“Those whom they invoke besides Him have no power of intercession, except those who bear witness to the truth knowingly.”

He thus declares that no one besides Allah has power over intercession. His words, “except those who bear witness to the truth knowingly,” constitute a disjunctive exception. That is, those who knowingly bear witness to the truth are the people involved in intercession: some are intercessors, and others are those on whose behalf intercession is made.

It is established in the Sahīh that Abū Hurayrah asked the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“Who will be most blessed by your intercession, O Messenger of Allah?”

He replied:

“O Abū Hurayrah, I thought that no one would ask me about this hadith before you
