the people of Syria because of the graves of prophets among them—Abraham, Allah’s close friend, and others, peace be upon them; some believe that calamity is averted from the people of Egypt through Nafīsah or others, or from the people of the Hijāz through the grave of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and those buried in al-Baqī‘ or elsewhere—all of this is excess that contradicts the religion of Islam, the Quran, the Sunnah and scholarly consensus.
Jerusalem had as many graves of prophets and righteous people as Allah willed. Yet when its people disobeyed the prophets and acted contrary to what Allah and His messengers had commanded, He gave power over them to those who exacted retribution upon them. The messengers who have died were responsible only for conveying the message clearly, and they conveyed their Lord’s message.

Allah has guaranteed guidance and support to everyone who obeys the Messenger. Whoever disobeys the Messenger’s command deserves punishment, and no one can avail him in any way against Allah. As the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“O ‘Abbās, uncle of Allah’s Messenger, I can be of no avail to you against Allah. O Safiyyah, aunt of Allah’s Messenger, I can be of no avail to you against Allah. O Fātimah, daughter of Allah’s Messenger, I can be of no avail to you against Allah.”
He, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, also said to those of his Companions whom he appointed to positions of authority:
“Let me not find any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection with a camel grunting upon his neck, saying, ‘O Messenger of Allah, help me!’ I will say, ‘I can do nothing for you against Allah. I have conveyed the message to you.’”
