after him will be under his banner. He will be the first to ask for the gate of Paradise to be opened:
“The keeper will say, ‘Who are you?’ He will reply, ‘I am Muhammad.’ The keeper will say, ‘I was commanded not to open it for anyone before you.’”
He has prescribed obligations for his community and instituted recommended practices for them. Pilgrimage to the House of Allah is obligatory, while travelling to his mosque and al-Aqsā Mosque to pray, recite the Quran, remember Allah, supplicate, and observe devotional retreat is recommended by the agreement of the Muslims. When one comes to his mosque, one greets him with peace and invokes blessings upon him.
Greetings of peace and blessings are also invoked upon him during prayer, for Allah says:
“Indeed, Allah bestows blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O you who believe, invoke blessings upon him and greet him with peace.”
Whoever invokes blessings upon him once, Allah bestows blessings upon him ten times; and whoever greets him with peace, Allah sends peace upon him ten times.
One should also ask Allah to grant him al-wasīlah, as established in the authentic collection, where he said:
“When you hear the caller to prayer, repeat what he says, then invoke blessings upon me. Whoever invokes blessings upon me once, Allah bestows blessings upon him ten times in return. Then ask Allah to grant me al-wasīlah, for it is a rank in Paradise befitting only one of Allah’s servants, and I hope to be that servant. Whoever asks Allah to grant me al-wasīlah will be entitled to my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.”

Al-Bukhārī also narrated that he—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“Whoever says upon hearing the call to prayer, ‘O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the prayer about to be established, grant Muhammad al-wasīlah and pre-eminence, and raise him to the Praiseworthy Station which You have promised him. Indeed, You never break Your promise,’ will be entitled to my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.”
