At the grave itself, no one is able to do that, for Allah answered his supplication when he said:

“O Allah, do not make my grave an idol that is worshipped.”

As for his Mosque, only some ignorant people do such things there. Those who know the teachings of Islam do only what is prescribed, and they restrain the others as far as they can. Thus, the visitors are not united in misguidance. As for anyone else’s grave, those who travel to it are all ignorant, misguided people who associate partners with Allah. They reach the grave itself, and no one there censures them.

Eighth: His grave is well known and established through mass transmission, unlike the graves of others.

It should be understood that Allah Most High has protected the graves of the prophets in general through the blessing of Muhammad’s mission, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. With the ascendancy of his religion, people have been unable to take the prophets’ graves as mosques. Likewise, He has made manifest faith in the prophets’ prophethood and in what they brought—through publicly remembering them, loving them, showing them allegiance, believing their words, and following their deeds—to an extent unmatched in any other community.

This is how people benefit from the prophets: by believing what they reported, obeying what they commanded, following their example in what they did, loving what they loved, hating what they hated, showing allegiance to those to whom they showed allegiance, and opposing those whom they opposed. These and similar things can only be attained through knowledge of the accounts of their lives. The Quran and Sunnah are full of accounts of the prophets.
