you worship besides Him. So plot against me, all of you, and give me no respite. I have put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord. There is no living creature but He holds it by its forelock. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path.”

When they disputed with Abraham, peace be upon him, he said to them:

“Do you dispute with me concerning Allah when He has guided me? I do not fear those you associate with Him, unless my Lord wills something. My Lord encompasses all things in knowledge. Will you not take heed? How could I fear those you associate with Him, while you do not fear associating with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority to you? Which of the two parties has more right to security, if you know? Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing—it is they who will have security, and they are rightly guided.”

When they tried to frighten Muhammad—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him—with those besides Allah, Allah Most High said:

“Is Allah not sufficient for His servant? Yet they try to frighten you with those besides Him. Whoever Allah leaves astray has no guide, and whoever Allah guides, none can lead astray. Is Allah not Almighty, capable of retribution? If you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say, ‘Allah.’ Say, ‘Have you considered those you call upon besides Allah? If Allah intends harm for me, could they remove the harm He inflicts? Or if He intends mercy for me, could they withhold His mercy?’ Say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me. In Him let those who trust put their trust.’”

And He Most High said:

“Say, ‘Call upon those you associate with Allah, then plot against me and give me no respite. Indeed, my Protector is Allah, who sent down the Book, and He protects the righteous.’”
