He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was also asked about “Mount Lebanon”:
Is there any text in the Book of Allah Most High affirming its virtue, or any hadith from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace? Is it permissible in the religion of Allah Most High for people to gesture toward it with their heads when they see it, even to the point that someone who sees it in the morning or evening considers this a tremendous blessing?
Has it been established among the scholars that forty of the abdāl reside there, or that there were men there covered with hair like that of goats? Is this a characteristic of the righteous? Is it permissible to form the intention of visiting it, or to believe that whoever sets foot on its ground has trodden upon part of a mountain singled out for mercy? Has it been established that any prophet is buried on it or in its foothills?
Has any scholar said that the “men of the unseen” reside there? What are these “men of the unseen” in whom ordinary people place their faith supposed to be like? Is it permissible in the religion of Allah Most High for Muslims to believe any of this? Is everyone who obstinately defends it and presents it as good, or compromises over it, mistaken and sinful? Under these circumstances, is someone who denounces all of this counted among those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, or not?
He answered:
There is no text affirming the virtue of “Mount Lebanon” and similar mountains, neither from Allah
